Following grain and vegetable oils, attention is increasingly turning to other Ukrainian agricultural products that could gain access to the Algerian market. Live cattle, beef, poultry meat and dairy products are among the sectors where regulatory progress has been made or discussions are currently underway.
The cattle sector is one of the most advanced areas. Algerian authorities have opened several opportunities for imports from Ukraine, including cattle for slaughter, cattle for fattening, as well as breeding cattle.
For Ukrainian exporters, this represents an important opportunity. Ukraine has a significant livestock sector and is seeking to diversify its export markets. Access to the Algerian market could therefore create new opportunities for livestock farmers and companies specializing in the trade of live cattle.
The poultry sector is also an important potential export market. Ukraine and Algeria are currently working on opening the Algerian market to Ukrainian poultry meat and related products. The Ukrainian side has already submitted requests to the Algerian authorities concerning veterinary requirements, market-access procedures and the necessary international certificates. The process therefore remains under negotiation and could eventually open a new market for Ukrainian poultry producers.
The dairy sector also offers significant potential. Algeria remains an important market for milk powder and raw materials used in dairy processing. Ukrainian producers have substantial production capacity in this sector and are looking to expand their exports to North Africa.
The opportunities are not limited to finished products. Algerian companies may also find opportunities for cooperation in livestock farming, animal genetics, feed, equipment for farms and processing facilities, as well as agri-food technologies.
For Algerian importers, the development of these sectors offers an opportunity to diversify their sources of supply. However, before launching any commercial operation, several elements need to be verified, including the sanitary approval of the exporting facility, product compliance, actual supply capacity, available volumes, payment terms and logistics solutions.
For Ukrainian companies, the Algerian market could also become a promising destination, particularly for operators capable of providing regular volumes and meeting Algerian regulatory and sanitary requirements.
The further development of these areas could gradually broaden the structure of trade between Ukraine and Algeria and create new opportunities for private businesses, both in trade and in industrial partnerships.
