Ukrainian ferroalloy exports declined sharply during the first eight months of 2026. According to data reported by Interfax-Ukraine, Ukraine exported only 23,960 tonnes of ferroalloys between January and August 2026, compared with 73,770 tonnes during the same period in 2025 — a 67.5% decrease in volume. In monetary terms, exports fell by 65.2% to USD 28.78 million.
The sharp decline is primarily linked to the ongoing difficulties facing Ukraine’s ferroalloy industry, particularly electricity supply constraints and high energy costs. Since January 2026, the Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant has been idle, while the Zaporizhzhia Ferroalloy Plant has been operating at a minimal level.
Despite these challenges, Algeria holds a particularly important position in Ukraine’s ferroalloy trade. In 2025, Algeria was one of the main destinations for Ukrainian ferroalloy exports, accounting for 21.48% of their total value, behind Poland and Türkiye.
This figure highlights the significant potential for industrial and trade cooperation between Algeria and Ukraine, particularly in metallurgy, raw materials and products serving the steel industry. It also demonstrates that, despite the impact of the war and the difficulties affecting Ukrainian production, bilateral trade relations between the two countries continue to offer significant opportunities.
Developing new partnerships between Algerian and Ukrainian companies could help maintain and strengthen these trade flows while opening the way for broader economic cooperation between the two markets.
Algeria is therefore not simply one of the destinations for Ukrainian exports; it represents a strategic market for strengthening industrial and trade cooperation between Algeria and Ukraine.
