Economic relations between Ukraine and Algeria are gaining new momentum in the agri-food sector. In April 2026, a delegation representing Ukraine’s dairy industry visited Algeria to explore new business opportunities and strengthen cooperation with Algerian stakeholders in the dairy sector.
The mission was led by the Union of Dairy Enterprises of Ukraine (SMPU) and brought together representatives of several major Ukrainian dairy companies. Among the companies represented were BIAGR, Halychyna, Lustdorf, Ruzhyn-Moloko, Molokiya, Terra Food Group, Zolotoniskyi Butter-Making Plant, Roshen Dairy Plant in Vinnytsia, and Ukrproduct Group.
The collective presence of these companies reflects the growing interest of Ukrainian dairy producers and processors in the Algerian market, which is one of the major agri-food markets in North Africa.
During the visit, Ukrainian representatives held a series of meetings with Algerian institutions and professional organizations, including the Algerian Ministry of Agriculture, the National Interprofessional Office of Milk (ONIL), and the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACI).
The discussions focused primarily on opportunities to export Ukrainian dairy products to Algeria, particularly milk powder, as well as market-access requirements and prospects for establishing direct partnerships between companies from the two countries.
Ukraine’s interest in the Algerian dairy market is driven by Algeria’s significant demand for dairy products and raw materials used by the food-processing industry. For Ukrainian companies with substantial production capacities, Algeria represents a promising market for expanding exports and strengthening their presence in North Africa.
The mission also took place within the framework of the business activity surrounding Djazagro, one of Algeria’s leading professional trade fairs for the agri-food industry. Participation in such events provides Ukrainian companies with an opportunity to showcase their production capabilities, meet Algerian importers and distributors, and identify new business partners.
Beyond exports of milk powder and dairy products, potential cooperation could also extend to other areas, including dairy cattle farming, animal genetics, feed production, milk-processing equipment, and agri-food technologies.
The mission represents another step in the development of economic relations between Ukraine and Algeria. It also demonstrates the growing interest of Ukrainian companies in expanding their presence across African markets and developing long-term commercial and industrial partnerships.
For Algerian companies, this growing engagement creates new opportunities to diversify their sources of supply and establish partnerships with Ukraine’s dairy industry, which has considerable production capacity and industrial expertise.
